    Introduction and Feedback Request

    Hello,

    I'm a relatively new member to the Infragistcis team having started just under 2 months ago.  I'm the Director of Web Technologies for IG and my name is Kevin.  One of the tasks I've been charged with is enhancing the overall "experience" of our various web properties.  You may have noticed recently that we made some significant changes to our home page which targeted page size (both screen and download) as well as the structure of the primary navigation.  With a target screen resolution of 1024x768 we were able to reduce what was 3 full scrolls of vertical real estate into a single "above the fold" view.  This went a long way toward shaving the download weight as the home page dropped from 1.2mb and 94 http requests to about 240kb and 49 requests (both against unprimed cache).  We have additional changes planned that will reduce these values even further.

    However, we understand there is still much to be done.  This is where the "feedback request" portion of my title applies.  I'm asking you, the users of Infragistics.com (and it's community sites) what kinds of things you would like to see.  What do you think we're doing well?  What do you think we're not doing so well?  What areas of the site are most important to you and what can we do to make our site work better for you?

    I invite you to contact me via private message or email, whichever is convenient for you, so that I can take all of the feedback into consideration as we plan our future changes.

     Thank you in advance,

     Kevin

    Re: Introduction and Feedback Request

    Boy, I hope you're wearing a flak jacket!  Here's my two biggest pet peeves.  ;-)

    1. Integrated search: assuming I only work with one version of NetAdvantage, there are at least five different search functions on your site, one each for KB, Forums, my version's Online Docs, my version's Samples Browser, and the rest of your site.
    2. Samples that work.  The ones the Samples Browser shows us look really nice until you copy the markup and code into your own project.  You should implement your samples as on VS Solution, and each version of NetAdvantage should have a set of samples built using that version.

    This is already in the works.  You will be able to use a single interface for searching across various areas of our sites and online information at once and also be able to narrow your search down to specific areas.  In addition the quality of the result returned will be better than what you're able to get today.

    My team is not responsible for the samples but I can certainly relay this message to the people who are.

    Thanks again for the feedback.

    Are you responsible for webchat  interface? This refreshing thing from which I cannot even copy without lightning-like reflexes just drives me crazy.

    The other points are:

    1. I use firefox and almost never close my browser and reboot approximately once a month. Why do I need to log in severals times a day when I need to access say my support requests? Your forums are working in a much more reliable way.

    2. Where is the export to excel functionality for support requests?

    3. What about filtering/sorting for support requests at least for some columns (such as Current Status)?

    Re: Introduction and Feedback Request

    The feedback and requests you all are providing (both here and via private messages) have been great.  While it will be difficult to respond to each specific request please rest assured knowing we will put consideration toward everything.  As we're able to address specific requests from the community we'll post notification of planned changes in these forums.

    Thank you again, please continue to provide us with your comments, requests and questions.

    Keys & Downloads

    Hello, one issue I have with the site is within the keys and downloads.  The versions are different between source code downloads, product downloads, and hotfix downloads.

    I.E. I have a license for Netadvantage for WPF.  I can download version 20081.1000, hotfix 20081.2036, and sourcecode 20081.2008.

    It is fairly important for us to have the same sourcecode as the current hotfix.  And would be even much more useful if we had read access to the source repository (Maybe SVN?).

    Re: Introduction and Feedback Request

    I would like to be able to post code from my project into these forums without having to manually modify the html.  It is nearly impossible to read anyone's snippets that are longer than a few lines.  Here's what happens when I paste currently:

     <DisplayLayout AutoGenerateColumns="false" AllowColSizingDefault="Free" AllowColumnMovingDefault="OnServer"

    AllowSortingDefault="No" BorderCollapseDefault="Separate" ColWidthDefault="100"

    HeaderClickActionDefault="SortSingle" LoadOnDemand="Xml" Name="SearchResultsGrid"

    NoDataMessage="" RowHeightDefault="20px" RowSelectorsDefault="Yes" ScrollBar="Auto"

    RowsRange="20" SelectTypeRowDefault="Single" StationaryMargins="Header"

    StationaryMarginsOutlookGroupBy="True" TableLayout="Fixed" Version="4.00"

    ViewType="Hierarchical" XmlLoadOnDemandType="Synchronous">

    Tom, we are currently investigating a code formatting module as well as possibly a few others that would be integrated once we've completed an upgrade of our forum software. Please continue to provide us with your comments and suggestions for improvements. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

    Re: Introduction and Feedback Request

    I would like to see a public list of feature requests and have the capability to vote on which ones are important to me, or maybe give them a rating.

    Right now we can request a feature through a form.  I think it would be awesome to be able to see what other people are requesting and put in some sort of vote/rating system to assist infragistics in prioritizing these requests.

    I think that would cut down on your guys management as far as searching for duplicate requests that come in from every customer also.
